Thursday Night @ Stetson Loops is a great way to get faster!
Meet at Deem Park at 7:00PM ride two neutral loops to become familiar with the course. Then we do 5 more loops. The downhill, SOUTHBOUND is still neutral but the uphill, that’s where it gets crazy. As you feel the group pick up speed, you are at about 30% effort and in your mind, “You got this” – by the top of the hill, less than a mile away where we regroup, you’re at ZONE 6 on the HR Monitor – you see stars, your legs are buzzing and you’re ready to puke (or you didn’t try hard enough).
If you want to get faster, you have to ride with people faster than you. There are plenty of fast riders to chase.
Couple quick rules so everyone is on the same page:
- DON’T OVERLAP THE WHEEL IN FRONT OF YOU – IF THAT PERSON IN FRONT OF YOU MOVES TO THE SIDE, YOU WILL CRASH AND THE GUY IN FRONT MAY OR MAY NOT KNOW YOU EVEN BUMPED HIM.
- ALWAYS PASS ON THE LEFT – IF YOU FADE (AND YOU WILL) FADE TO THE RIGHT.
Most of this workout notice is for affect – in all reality, over half the loop is neutral and only the uphill is at all out effort and it’s only lasts for about 2 minutes. You are welcome to ride easy, stay towards the back of the pack or to the right and enjoy.
